In Feb 2003, the Johor State Menteri Besar, Dato Abdul Ghani has declared the area, along with the mangrove forests in Tanjung Piai and Pulau Kukup, as Ramsar Sites.   SOS is aware that some 10,000 ha of mangrove forest on the upper Pulai River Estuary had been rightly gazetted as a Ramsar Site, as declared in the local press. If so why has development activities continued within the site and why are new projects allowed to impinge on the Ramsar Site?
